Fort Hood is the Army base where just three years ago, Vanessa Guillen was murdered. The base is back in the headlines after announcing another death of a female soldier.

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT 

Fort Hood sent out an official announcement on March 15, 2023:

The text read "Sadly, the 1st Cavalry Division lost a Trooper March 13, Pvt. Ana Basalduaruiz, a combat engineer, who has served with the division for the past 15 months."

INVESTIGATING THE DEATH ON BASE

Basalduaruiz was a 20-year-old from Long Beach, California; she joined the Army nearly 2 years ago. Details surrounding Basalduaruiz's death have not yet been released. However, officials say they do not believe foul play was involved.

CONFIRMATION RELEASED DAYS LATER

Posted just three days after Basalduaruiz's death, "the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division officials have confirmed that at this point in the investigation into the death of Pvt. Ana Basalduaruiz no foul play is evident, and will remain under investigation."

As family members begin to mourn the tragic loss, officials are committed to extending support to Pvt. Ana Basalduaruiz.“We are deeply saddened by the loss of PV2 Ana Basalduaruiz, and we extend our sympathies to her father, mother, and her sister,” said Lt. Col. Patrick Sullivan, commander, 91st Engineer Battalion.
