City of Victoria Officially Cancels Bootfest
After weeks of deliberation and consideration, the City of Victoria has officially canceled Bootfest, our community's largest free festival, for the 2020 season.
Bootfest had been previously scheduled for October 2nd and 3rd 2020.
The City of Victoria offered a press release which you can read here, stating,
"The City of Victoria has canceled Bootfest 2020 following many weeks of extensive consideration. As a result of ongoing concern over the spread of COVID-19, City staff determined the event could not be held in a manner that ensured the health and safety of event attendees, staff, sponsors, volunteers, vendors, and entertainers."
Without a doubt, our city officials and event coordinators were saddened by having to cancel this year's event and our City Manager offered this statement as well, "We would have enjoyed another festival, and our staff has been working hard to make this year even better than past festivals,” City Manager Jesús Garza said. “However, with the ongoing pandemic, this decision is the only responsible option.”
Each year, several thousand residents and visitors gather in downtown Victoria to experience Bootfest’s western-themed activities and live music. Attendees also have an opportunity to shop at a wide variety of merchant booths and enjoy foods from an array of vendors.
Bootfest is Victoria’s largest free festival, and this year’s event would have been the 10th annual celebration.
The City anticipates the return of Bootfest in 2021 and will continue working on its plans to host the event when it can be held in a safe and healthy environment."
As with thousands of other events, large and small, canceled throughout Texas and the nation, we can only look to the future hoping 2021 will be a banner year.
See you at Bootfest in 2021.
