Tim McGraw keeps it mellow with the first single from an upcoming project. “Top of the World” is a gentle way for the singer to describe his love to someone. McGraw uses a familiar metaphor to make it clear this woman couldn’t make him feel any finer.

As he did on several songs from Sundown Heaven Town, McGraw relies on simple, everyday images to tell his story. “We could have a little doublewide planted in an empty field / We could have a big old white picket wrap around on a hill,” he sings after a sparse introduction.

“Don’t make a difference to me, baby where the wind takes me / Long as I'm with you, girl / We could have something or nothing / And still be sittin’ on top of the world.”

A dusting of organ and guitar give the song throwback charm. There’s a ’70s soul thing happening as McGraw pours his heart out. The chorus goes:

“‘Cause when ya got love like we got love / I'm holding onto heaven, holding onto you / When you got one like I got one / Anywhere you're looking it’s a hell of a view / Don't know where we're gonna be / But I know we're gonna be / Sittin’ on top of the world / So keep hanging on to me / Yeah, don't you wanna be / Sittin’ on top of the world.”

“Top of the World” doesn’t grip one's heart like some of McGraw's previous singles have done, but it’s likely not intended to. The new single is a bluejeans-and-T-shirt kind of love song, good for any occasion.

Why Fans Will Love It: "Top of the World" is an easy love song that everyone will find something familiar in.

Key Lyrics: "Don't know where we're gonna be / But I know we're gonna be / Sittin’ on top of the world."

Did You Know?: To promote the song, McGraw reached out to NASA astronauts on the space station.
