The 2014 Calhoun County Rabies Drive will be Monday through April 12. During the drive, Calhoun County residents can get their pets vaccinated at a reduced cost. The drive is sponsored by the Calhoun County Animal Control and organized by the Calhoun County Veterinary Medical Association as part of an ongoing effort to minimize the chance of a local rabies outbreak, according to a news release.

County law requires all dogs and cats at 3 months old to be vaccinated followed by a one-year booster and triannually after that, according to the news release. Local veterinarians will also offer the same low rates in their offices during the week. Appointments are not necessary for out-of-office drive sites; just be at the right place during the hours of operation. Appointments are helpful but not required for vaccinations in local veterinary offices, says the Victoria Advocate.
