‘Nashville’ Picked Up by ABC, Show Trailer Hits the Web

Nashville Pilot

Not too long ago, we reported that ABC staked a claim in Nashville to film the pilot for a new TV drama by the same name. Starring Connie Britton (the mainstay guidance counselor and coach’s wife on ‘Friday Night Lights’), ‘Heroes’ beauty Hayden Panettiere and a handful of other experienced stars, this show about the behind-the-scenes drama in country music is sure to be a hit. Just check out the ‘Nashville’ trailer (below) and you’ll understand why.

The backstory of ‘Nashville’ is very, well, Nashville. The premise goes like this: 40-year-old country music star Rayna James (Connie Britton) is looking for a way to revive her music career. After spending years at the top of country music charts, she is — of course — hesitant to share a bill with sassy newcomer Juliette Barnes (Panettiere). But to save her music career, she agrees to team up with the young country vixen, who is just downright mean.

Of course, to keep things interesting, Tennessee politics enter the scene when Rayna’s wealthy father (Powers Boothe) pushes her handsome husband (Eric Close) to run for mayor of Music City. Things aren’t going well for Rayna, but then she discovered songwriter Scarlett O’Connor (Clare Bowen) playing an open mic night at the legendary Bluebird Cafe. Could she be the magic ticket to resurrection Rayna’s career? We’ll have to tune in this fall to find out.

Although Nashville has been in the limelight recently, thanks to its reputation as a city where celebs can live and be left alone, it’s been decades since Music City was the setting for a major TV show. It makes you wonder, why are all of these major stars willing to move to Tennessee to film the series?

Hayden Panettiere says she wants to do the show because of her abiding love for country music. “I always loved country music. But when you’re from New York, people go, ‘Country music? Where’s the connection there?” she said, according to Country Weekly.

“And it’s got such a loyal fan base,” she added. “And so many of the people I look up to are in country music.”

So when ABC did a casting call for ‘Nashville,’ Pannettiere was completely on board. “I literally was like, ‘This is the one. . . . Tell me what to do,’” she said.

Check out the trailer video belo, and you’re sure to get as excited as we are for the ‘Nashville’ premiere on ABC this fall. The hour-long shows will air on Wednesday nights at 9PM CT/10PM ET.
