Luke Bryan Joins Charlie Daniels Live for ‘The Devil Went Down to Georgia’ [Watch]

Luke Bryan joined Charlie Daniels onstage in Nashville on Wednesday night (Nov. 30) to perform his classic hit, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.”

Bryan was one of the all-stars at Daniels’ 80th Birthday Volunteer Jam, which took place at the Bridgestone Arena in Music City. The lineup included 3 Doors Down, Travis Tritt, Larry the Cable Guy, Kid Rock, Chris Stapleton, Bryan and Daniels, and packed the Bridgestone with more than 15,000 fans, raising $245,000 for Daniels’ non-profit Journey Home Project. That organization helps U.S. military veterans from a number of different angles.

Part of the event each year is an all-star jam featuring the different artists jamming with Daniels on classic covers, as well as selections from his own catalog. Bryan came back out onstage after his own set to join Daniels on “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” which scored Daniels a No. 3 hit on Billboard‘s Hot 100 when it was released as a single from 1979’s Million Mile Reflections album.

In the video above, Daniels and Bryan trade lines on what has become the 80-year-old Hall of Famer’s signature hit, which Bryan named as one of his favorites in a press conference prior to the concert.

“Obviously, being a kid from Georgia, I was wondering, ‘Why’d the devil come down here?'” he recalls. “It kinda scared me as a kid, a little bit!”

The evening also included a special appearance from Randy Travis, who was on hand to present Daniels with a humanitarian award for his efforts on behalf of the U.S. military. But it wasn’t all fun; during Bryan’s set, he appeared to get involved in a physical altercation with a fan down front, jumping down from the stage and seeming to slap him in the face before returning to the stage to finish his song.
