Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock Scrap Big Wedding, Plan to Elope
Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock aren't calling off their marriage, but they are calling off their big, fancy wedding. Instead of a huge extravaganza, they're going easy on themselves and eloping.
The 31-year-old songstress reveals that the wedding was just too much to handle. "We are so busy that we finally just came to terms the other night and were like, 'So, we change our minds and we want to elope,'" Clarkson shares with People. "We just got so overwhelmed by it -- all the decisions."
Clarkson said she was going crazy with the wedding plans, adding that she was 'over it' -- apparently really over it.
"We sent out a save-the-date to everyone and then it got crazy and all the details were leaking," the star continues. "Then, honestly, the planning -- I have a Christmas record coming out. I'm doing a bunch of stuff with State Farm right now ... we have two kids who just started school. We're going to all these football games and soccer games and volleyball games and [Brandon]'s got one of the biggest artists [Blake Shelton] in country music. He's flying everywhere."
When the couple finally decided to elope, they let all of their wedding guests know that they were going to make the intimate occasion even more intimate. The 'Tie It Up' singer dishes that they "sent out an engagement photo to everyone and said, 'Thank you so much for understanding, but it's just going to be me and Brandon and his two kids and the minister.'"
It's a bold move for Clarkson and Blackstock, and although it's disappointing that we won't the beautiful wedding photos, the lovebirds will be feeling much more calm and relaxed on their big day -- and that's what's important.
They're keeping an extremely healthy outlook on the called-off wedding, as the 'American Idol' winner explains wisely: "Our whole life is a celebration. That's what we kept laughing about. We don't need another day where we throw a big party. Our lives are so in the spotlight all the time. Everything is such a spectacle, we were like, 'We would rather have an intimate moment that's special.'"
Sometimes, the best answer is the simplest one. And for Clarkson and her fiance, eloping is the right answer.
