The National Weather Service forecasts a crest of 29.9 feet on the Guadalupe River to arrive in Victoria on Thursday afternoon. Emergency officials ordered a voluntary evacuation for residents of the Greens Addition effective Tuesday afternoon at 5pm.

A disaster declaration was issued for Victoria County today in anticipation of the imminent flood threat.

The river level will rise quickly and then drop slowly through the weekend. At 29.9 feet, water could enter the lowest homes in Greens Addition, and could inundate the streets in the Old Town area and the East Basin area. Residents who choose to evacuate should be out of the area by Tuesday at 5pm. Residents who stay in their homes should be prepare to be isolated through the weekend.

Residents in all low lying areas that have flooded before should prepare for flood waters in case the projections are revised further upward. Owners or renters should have a flood plan in place and be prepared to move to higher ground if floodwaters threaten their home.

Ranchers and farmers near the river should be prepared to move livestock and large equipment to higher ground.

LATEST RIVER LEVEL: at 3:50 pm today, the Guadalupe River level measured at the Moody Street gauge was 15.75 feet and rising.

PRECAUTIONS

The city will place its biggest pump, a 12” model, at River and Victoria Street. The pump is fueled and operational and will be used if floodwaters enter the Old Town area.

Beginning Tuesday, city personnel will go door-to-door in low lying neighborhoods to notify residents that the river may threaten homes.

Anyone living in the Greens Addition, Old Town area near River Street and Victoria Street, or the East Basin area should monitor river levels closely.

County personnel are pre-staging barricades and resources to assist with the rise.

Extra security will be in place for all low-lying neighborhoods.

It is against the law for anyone to move or drive past barricades.
