The eighth annual 3S Genealogy Symposium will be from 9:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 17 at the First United Methodist Church, 206 S. Dowling St. in Hallettsville. Sponsored by the Friench Simpson Memorial Library, the symposium features two speakers, Leslie Watson Tomlinson and Judy Allen Knight. They will talk about using your research to write and publish books, articles, quarterlies, newsletters and websites. Tomlinson is the director and publication designer for the San Antonio Genealogical and Historical Society and the International Society of British Genealogy and Family History reports the Victoria Advocate. Trained in art and graphic design, she will share tips on using PowerPoint and Keynote for family storybooks and on creating publications using everyday software.

 

Knight, whose topic is Writing Your Family History, has 40 years of experience in genealogy. She has been president of Mid-Cities Genealogical Society and representative to the Texas State Genealogical Society. She was chairwoman of the TSGS convention in 2006 and vendor/venue chairwoman in 2012.

 

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. The symposium is free and open to the public. The morning session begins at 9:15 a.m. and breaks for lunch at 11:45 a.m. The afternoon session runs from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Participants may register early at the Friench Simpson Library, 705 E. Fourth St., or at the library the morning of the event.
