Country stars left their cowboy hats at home and donned server attire for the 13th annual Kevin Carter Waiting for Wishes Celebrity Waiters Dinner on last Tuesday (April 15).

The event was held at a downtown Nashville hotspot, the Palm, and inside the restaurant, fan-favorite singers were handing out plates of delicious food, filling water and wine glasses, and taking on the role of waiters and waitresses. It all benefitted the Kevin Carter Foundation and Make-A-Wish Middle Tennessee.

Hosted by the former NFL football star Carter and Rascal Flatts‘ Jay DeMarcus, the evening saw Dierks Bentley, Scotty McCreery, Chris Young, Dustin Lynch, Keith Anderson, Frankie Ballard, Maggie Rose, Olympian Scott Hamilton, pop stars Rick Springfield and Tiffany, ‘Nashville‘ stars Charles Esten and Chris Carmack and NFL stars Eric Decker, Michael Roos and George Wilson all acting as servers for the evening.

Even though all the stars were glad to help out with the event, trading in their guitar straps and microphones and learning to balance plates of food was a little nerve-wracking.

“I have zero experience of waiting tables in my past,” Young tells Country Weekly. “So, I’ll be flying by the seat of my pants. But it’s a really great event and a cool way to give back to a good cause.”

Bentley admits, “Being a server is hard work. I just hope I don’t drop any plates.”

The guys wore tan waiter’s jackets over their choice of button-down shirts, while the gals donned black aprons over their clothing.

DeMarcus, who helps round up celebrities from the music and television worlds, says the annual event, which has raised more than $1.5 million since it began in 2002, is worth all the hard work.

“For me, what I love seeing is that so many people want to come back,” he says. “They’re just mesmerized by the whole event. We do have fun but it’s for a great cause and I think everybody gets that. The only thing Kevin hasn’t been able to improve on is the co-host.” He adds. “He gets stuck with me every year.”

If these country stars ever decide to make a transition into the restaurant industry, they’ve already had a bit of practice!
