Local Companies Set For Growth

Here's more evidence of why Texas--specifically, south Texas--continues to outpace the rest of the nation in economic growth and jobs creation. As Governor Perry says, "Texas is 'open for business!'" If you (or someone you know) is looking for work--or possibly a career change--check this out!

“Strong” Changes At UT?

Let me start this by saying I first saw this on a friend's Facebook page. And this is an ACTUAL friend of mine, not merely a "Facebook friend." This friend is also a UT alum, and keeps close tabs on what's happening with the Longhorns football program. That being said, if this information is true, there will be a major culture change in the UT football program, thanks to new Head Coach Charlie Strong!

Shiner Falls To Stamford 41-28

The Shiner Comanches fell short of their bid to become the Class 1A, Division I State Champions, losing to the Stamford Bulldogs, 41-28. Stamford racked up 34 unanswered points in the second half of the game. On Shiner's final possession, an interception allowed the Bulldogs to regain the ball with 15 seconds left. Stamford's Gus West snagged the interception and knelt down at the Bulldogs' 21-yard line, allowing them to run out the clock and win the game. Shiner ends the season with an 11-4 record.

Remembering The Alamo

My wife Sweetie and I had the pleasure of making our first visit to San Antonio last weekend. After living in Texas for just over a year, we've just barely "scratched the surface" of places we want to see in the Lone Star State. We were invited by our friend Craig Morris (who happens to be Loretta Lynn's keyboard player--see my previous post) to come see Loretta's show at the Majestic Theatre, so we decided to make a weekend of it. Well, I knew if we were going to go to San Antonio, I had to see the "Birthplace of Texas Liberty," the Alamo.

Report: Guadalupe River Going Dry

Most of South Texas is still trying to recover from the devastating three-year drought, with not much relief in sight. As a result, lakes, rivers, creeks and streams are quickly losing water volume. A new report on My San Antonio.com says the Guadalupe River is the driest it has been in more than fifty years. This has implications well beyond limiting fishing, kayaking, and other "on-the-river" recreational activities; the river is a vital source of drinking and irrigation water for many towns, farms and ranches in the Golden Crescent and Coastal Bend regions.

Summerfest 2013 In Austin Aug. 2-3

Amateur radio enthusiasts from all over Texas (and beyond) will gather this weekend in Austin for the 30th annual Austin Summerfest at the Crowne Plaza. Amateur (aka "ham") radio is both a hobby and a service. Ham operators enjoy contacting other hams across town or on the other side of the globe, using everything from vintage radio equipment to the latest digital modes of communication! Amateur radio has also been proven time and time again to be a reliable means of emergency communications, "when all else fails."
