Video: Fast Food Ads vs. Reality

We've all seen the ads for the various major fast food restaurants. The pictures of their menu items look so amazingly delicious! Why, you can just smell the wonderful aroma of fresh, juicy beef...warm, fluffy buns, and crisp, farm-fresh lettuce, tomato and onion, right? Well, I think you'll agree that what we see isn't always what we get; and one YouTube video producer set out to find the fast food that looks the most like it does in their ads.

Science: Drummers’ Brains Are Actually Different

Being a drummer, I've heard all of the jokes. I've also been told at times that my brain wasn't "quite right." Well, according to a scientific study, it's apparently true...but in a good way. I've always tried to be a problem-solver, and this study shows that trait is part and parcel with being able to lay a solid groove "in the pocket." But, hey...don't take my word for it; read the article and see why I have just gotten a nice, big shot of self-esteem.

Brad Paisley’s Hilarious Selfie With WBC Whackos

You've gotta hand it to Brad Paisley. He can find the humor in just about any situation. It seems the Westboro "Baptist" Church folks (you know, those loving folks who protest at fallen military personnel's funerals, among other things) decided to protest one of Brad's concerts recently. Brad took a hilarious selfie that you've just got to see!

Suspicious Email? Gee…Let Me Think About This

So, I'm checking one of my email accounts, and I see one with the subject line: "From Colonel Nick Logan."

"Hmm...," I think to myself. "I don't know anybody named 'Colonel Nick Logan.' I have a brother who retired from the California Army National Guard years ago as a Colonel, but that's not his name. I know a few people named 'Nick,' but none of them are in the military, to my knowledge. And I don't believe I know anybody whose last name is 'Logan.' Ahh...a mystery!" Now, it took much longer to write that than it did to think it, but I digress. So, my curiosity piqued (and my Crap Detector a-tinglin'), I opened the email on my iPhone ('cause it's harder to hack into those than a computer; even I know that). And here, just as it was in my email inbox, is what the mysterious missive said:

The Doctor Is In

One of the many things we've had to deal with since we relocated to Victoria from El Campo has been finding a Primary Care Physician for my wife Sweetie and me. When we lived in Arkansas, we saw the same PCP for eight of the nine years we were there. So, it's very important to us that we find someone who is patient (no pun intended), is up on the latest innovations in medicine, asks the right questions, and listens to our questions and provides clear, easy-to-understand answers.

25 Words That Have A Totally Different Meaning In Texas

I love lists that writers come up with about Texas. Having lived here for just shy of two years myself, I always find them educational and, often, amusing. Texas has its own pace, its own attitude, and--according to this list--its own vocabulary when it comes to the 25 words mentioned.

Science: Guitar Players’ Brains Are Actually Different

I've been a professional musician (singing drummer) since I was 16 years old. Over the years, I've had the pleasure of sharing stages with some wonderfully talented musicians. Now, some musicians are flaky, some are temperamental, and some have rather inflated egos; but most have been good folks, overall. Fairly early in my musical career, I formed the opinion that lead guitar players are just "wired up" differently than most other musicians.

17 Things ‘Nashville’ Gets Really Wrong About Nashville

The ABC-TV hit drama series, Nashville, has brought a lot of attention to the Music City itself, with the show being shot on location, incorporating real places (and a few fictional ones) and real Country artists and other celebrities into the episodes.

Now, to be honest, I haven't seen one full episode, because it comes on WAY past my bedtime! But I found this article to be very interesting, as I lived there myself from 2000-2003. I, like so many, had to get there to find out what Twang Town was all about. But like so much of TV and the movies, some "artistic liberties" have been taken with Nashville.

Post-Divorce Marriage Advice Going Viral

This story is being circulated all over social media. "Hindsight is 20/20," the old saying goes. Well, if you read this man's words, it seems to me that his backward vision concerning the breakdown of his 16-year marriage is crystal-clear. I know a lot of what he says here got me thinking about my marriage, and whether or not I could be making some of the same mistakes he did.

Study: Naps ARE Good For You!

Here in South Texas, the concept of the siesta is not unfamiliar. Most of us know how brief, refreshing "power nap" (if one has the ability to take one) can give you that little "re-charge" of our internal batteries to get through the remainder of a tough work day.

Now, researchers at California State University Berkeley have proof that napping is not only good for you, it's natural for human beings to want to take siestas!
