17 Things ‘Nashville’ Gets Really Wrong About Nashville

The ABC-TV hit drama series, Nashville, has brought a lot of attention to the Music City itself, with the show being shot on location, incorporating real places (and a few fictional ones) and real Country artists and other celebrities into the episodes.

Now, to be honest, I haven't seen one full episode, because it comes on WAY past my bedtime! But I found this article to be very interesting, as I lived there myself from 2000-2003. I, like so many, had to get there to find out what Twang Town was all about. But like so much of TV and the movies, some "artistic liberties" have been taken with Nashville.

Post-Divorce Marriage Advice Going Viral

This story is being circulated all over social media. "Hindsight is 20/20," the old saying goes. Well, if you read this man's words, it seems to me that his backward vision concerning the breakdown of his 16-year marriage is crystal-clear. I know a lot of what he says here got me thinking about my marriage, and whether or not I could be making some of the same mistakes he did.

Study: Naps ARE Good For You!

Here in South Texas, the concept of the siesta is not unfamiliar. Most of us know how brief, refreshing "power nap" (if one has the ability to take one) can give you that little "re-charge" of our internal batteries to get through the remainder of a tough work day.

Now, researchers at California State University Berkeley have proof that napping is not only good for you, it's natural for human beings to want to take siestas!

Is Chivalry Dead?

Dictionary.com defines "gentleman" as:
1. a man of good family, breeding, or social position.
2. (used as a polite term) a man: Do you know that gentleman over there?
3. gentlemen, (used as a form of address): Gentlemen, please come this way.
4. a civilized, educated, sensitive, or well-mannered man: He behaved like a true gentleman.

How many true gentlemen are there today? I'm not talking about stuffy, stuck-up arrogant types; I mean someone who regularly exhibits respect for others...especially women? With our "almost anything goes" society these days, it seems to me that gentlemanly behavior stands out like the proverbial "sore thumb." So, how can chivalry be brought back?

Promises, Promises

Once upon a time, a man's (or woman's) word was their bond. If one made a promise, and then didn't deliver on that promise, it was not only considered "bad form," but an extreme embarrassment. A cloud of shame could descend upon an entire family over one broken promise.

But here, well into the 21st century, it seems that promises can be made and broken without much thought, be it in politics, government, business, or just between neighbors, friends or family members.

Study: Drummers Are ‘Natural Intellectuals’

I love it when science and medicine confirm something I've known most of my life! I hate to brag, but hey...this was a scientific study, and who am I to argue with scientists; especially when their conclusions serve to boost my ego a little? If you know (or are yourself) a drummer, this will make your day!

The Phoebe Philes–Part 1

Skeeter notes: Sometimes, I get 'writer's block' when trying to come up with something clever for my blog posts here. So, I asked my Pug "princess," Phoebe, to write something for me this week. Now, you may say to yourself, "Dogs can't write!" And you would be correct. However, with patience, training, and treats, they can be taught to type. So, without further ado, I present Part 1 of "The Phoebe Philes."
