Video: Softwheel Acrobat Reinvents the Wheel

This is fascinating! I have a family member who was--for a time--mostly confined to a wheel chair, due to spinal nerve damage. Every bump and jolt would cause him a lot of pain. The design of the large wheels on the wheelchair shown in this video just might eliminate a lot of that problem. It's another example of how engineering continues to evolve in ways that can make our quality of life just that much better.

Gary Morris ‘n’ Me

Gary Morris has one of the most amazing voices in any kind of music, period...and has since he first hit the Top Ten on Billboard Country charts way back in 1981 with the song, "Headed For A Heartache." After a couple more singles hit the charts, he came out to my hometown of Fresno, CA to open a show for Lacy J. Dalton, who was also very popular in those days with a string of her own hits behind her. The band I was in at the time (the "original" Boy Howdy Band) was asked by the show's promoter (and our manager at the time) if we could learn 4 of Gary's songs

Mother’s Day 1976

The last "real" Mother's Day I had was in 1976. That's because around the Spring of that year, my Mom was diagnosed with colon cancer. Not nearly as much information was available then as there is now; and such screening procedures as colonoscopies weren't available on a widespread basis. So, by the time she realized something was wrong, and surgery was done to try to remove the cancerous section, the disease had already begun to spread into other areas of her body.

Science: Guitar Players’ Brains Are Actually Different

I've been a professional musician (singing drummer) since I was 16 years old. Over the years, I've had the pleasure of sharing stages with some wonderfully talented musicians. Now, some musicians are flaky, some are temperamental, and some have rather inflated egos; but most have been good folks, overall. Fairly early in my musical career, I formed the opinion that lead guitar players are just "wired up" differently than most other musicians.
