The ‘Houston Kid’ Comes Home

Singer/songwriter Rodney Crowell hasn't had a hit song on the Country charts since the summer of 1992. At least, not as an artist. As a writer, several of his songs have been hits since then, with the most recent one being "Making Memories of Us," which Keith Urban took to the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, where it stayed for five weeks! His songs have been recorded by Waylon Jennings ("I Ain't Livin' Long Like This"), The Oak Ridge Boys ("Leavin' Louisiana In The Broad Daylight"), numerous cuts by Emmylou Harris (for whom he played guitar in her infamous Hot Band before starting his solo career), Bob Seger ("Shame On The Moon") and a list way too long to continue here. He scor

Is Chivalry Dead?

Dictionary.com defines "gentleman" as:
1. a man of good family, breeding, or social position.
2. (used as a polite term) a man: Do you know that gentleman over there?
3. gentlemen, (used as a form of address): Gentlemen, please come this way.
4. a civilized, educated, sensitive, or well-mannered man: He behaved like a true gentleman.

How many true gentlemen are there today? I'm not talking about stuffy, stuck-up arrogant types; I mean someone who regularly exhibits respect for others...especially women? With our "almost anything goes" society these days, it seems to me that gentlemanly behavior stands out like the proverbial "sore thumb." So, how can chivalry be brought back?

I find myself saying more and more, "We live in such amazing times!" South Texas is no stranger to drought conditions, but what do you do when the area in which you live receives an average of less than half an inch of rain per year? Patriotism Is Alive And Well In Texas

This is yet another reason I am proud to now call Texas my home! In Cypress, TX (near Houston), during the pledge of allegiance and moment of silence that opened Friday’s school day at Cy-Fair High School. Groundskeeper Clayton Allen Jr. set aside his equipment to honor the moment and a teacher took a picture of him doing it. That picture--and the story behind it--are quickly going viral!

TxDOT Spring Break Alcohol Awareness Campaign

As Spring Break gets underway, the Texas Department of Transportation recently launched its month-long DWI Hangovers Don't Go Away campaign at a press conference on South Padre Island. Aimed at curbing drunk driving and fatalities among young adults and college students, the event was held at the Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark and Resort. A campaign street team then rode Segways up and down South Padre Island to hand out educational materials and interact with spring breakers.
