What I love about the Astros is that they have their minor-league affiliates so close to Victoria in Sugar Land and Corpus Christi! Sometimes, there is a chance to see some big-name players play with the Sugar Land Space Cowboys and in Corpus Christi with the Hooks. And this week, Astros fans may want to get tickets to see the Hooks this Tuesday for a chance to watch Yordan Alvarez.

The reason Astros players often play on the Astros' minor league teams is because they're usually rehabbing from an injury. In May of 2025, Jose Altuve played two games in Corpus with the Hooks while recovering from a tight right hamstring. Now, Yordan Alvarez will play in Corpus on Tuesday, August 19, as designated hitter for the Hooks. Alvarez has been out since early May due to a fractured right hand and subsequent inflammation.

If all goes well with Alvarez on the Hooks, we will have him back for a Houston Astros playoff run. The hope is to have him back in the lineup for a weekend series with Baltimore, as reported by MLB.com.

Tickets are more affordable to see Astro players in Sugar Land and Corpus Christi.

There are a few bonuses to seeing Astros players on the minor league teams in Sugar Land and Corpus Christi. The first is both are closer to Victoria than Houston. Sugar Land is only an hour and 40 minutes from Victoria. And Corpus Christi is only an hour and 28 minutes from Victoria. Plus, you won't be fighting with Houston traffic, and that's a huge bonus right there.

Another added bonus to you and your wallet is tickets are much cheaper in the minor league. In Sugar Land, tickets range from $9 to $82. And if you're wanting to Alvarez play with the Hooks on Tuesday, tickets  at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi are currently available from $14 to $28.

It will be a unique experience to see Alvarez play with the Hooks.

Alvarez is the powerhouse of the Astros, so getting to see him play with the Hooks will be a unique experience. He was originally injured back in April when he hurt his hand swinging at a pitch, and he played through the injury. He was eventually put on the injured list on May 5 with an official diagnosis of a muscle strain.

The Houston Astros have had an injury-plagued year so far.

The Houston Astros have been plagued with injuries so far this season. Even though that's not great for the players and for the team, it is a benefit to us in Victoria to watch Astros players closer to home. But despite the missing vital pieces to their lineups and pitching rotations, the Astros continue to fight and win. They currently are at the top of the American League West by a game and a half over the Seattle Mariners.

Alavarez is an absolute Powerhouse.

One of the biggest pieces that they are missing is Powerhouse, Yordan Alvarez. He was originally injured back in April when he hurt his hand swinging at a pitch but played through the injury. He was eventually put on the injured list on May 5.
