Good luck trying to pin down the influences of Kalie Shorr, who's quickly become one of the most promising country artists in Nashville. After all, her playlist for The Boot featured expected country icons (Lee Ann Womack, Dixie Chicks, Tim McGraw) alongside '90s rock inspirations (Third Eye Blind, Nirvana) and even classic rockers (Dire Straits).

Then again, however, Shorr has also become one of the most outspoken proponents of following her own path through country music. "Can you imagine being one of those people who comment on everything an artist does saying, 'That’s not country'?" she recently tweeted. "Where do you get all your free time? Can I borrow some? Do you have hobbies? Is that your hobby? Please explain."

Shorr's eclectic releases — her 2016 debut EP, The Y2K Mixtape, 2017's Slingshot EP and 2018's Awake EP — bear out the rising star's personality and influences, as they boast a distinct '90s throwback vibe, but also mix in inspirations from rock and pop inspirations. Read on for five things you need to know about Shorr.
