Watch Aaron Lewis Call Out Country Singers on Tour [NSFW]
Aaron Lewis took to the stage to call out a few of country music's biggest names for "choking all the life out of country music" during a recent show. Press play to watch the clip above, but be forewarned: Lewis uses strong language that's definitely NSFW.
During his Sept. 4 concert in Loveland, Colo., Lewis cited more than a couple country music stars whom he says are ruining country music. Before calling out some of the most popular acts in the industry, Lewis admitted that he knows his opinion may be controversial ... he just doesn't really care.
"Sometimes the things I say get me in trouble, and I don’t really give a f–k,” Lewis said at the Thunder Mountain Amphitheatre. "That being said, I want to thank a few people for inspiring me to write this next song."
Amid raucous cheese from the audience, Lewis went on to name Luke Bryan, Sam Hunt, Dan + Shay and Cole Swindell as inspiration for his 2016 single, "That Ain't Country."
"I’d like to thank Sam Hunt -- oh, I know, he’s so pretty to look at,” Lewis said. "I’d like to thank Luke Bryan, for most of his stuff -- he surprises me every once in a while. I would like to thank Dan + Shay. I’d like to thank Cole Swindell. And every other motherf–er that is just choking all the life out of country music."
"That Ain't Country" is off Lewis' second studio album Sinner, which will be released on Sept. 16. The album is highly anticipated, already being voted Album of the Month by readers of The Boot. Similar to his fiery single, the entire album will remind listeners what Lewis believes true country is all about.
"I’d like to think that Sinner is a newer take on classic, traditional outlaw country -- Waylon [Jennings] and Merle [Haggard] and Willie [Nelson] and Hank [Williams] Jr. and Johnny Cash and all that stuff,” Lewis says. “That was the music I heard a kid, and that’s the country music that permeated my soul and stuck with me my whole life."
Listeners can hear "That Ain't Country" on Lewis' new album in just a few days. Sinner is set to release on Sept. 16 and is available now for pre-order on Amazon and iTunes.
