Spring is the time of growth, cleaning, landscaping—and the perfect time for burglars to find expensive equipment. Be careful!

Garages and vehicles that are unlocked are one of the easiest targets this season for thieves. Who knows what wandering eyes might swoop by in need of a freshly cut lawn? Protect your expensive tools and your ability to have the neatest-looking lawn in town.

What to do?

Keep an inventory of your valuables, and make sure that they are all safely locked up. To keep an inventory, write down the brand, make and model of the items, along with serial numbers if they are available. An inventory can help detectives in identifying any items that have been stolen so that they can be returned.

When leaving a vehicle, make sure to hide any important possessions where they cannot be seen, and lock it. Unlocked vehicles are easy targets for burglars. Take your keys with you to avoid losing any Easter presents, or worse, the vehicle itself. Make sure whatever valuables are kept in the bed of your truck are strapped down and locked up. That way the items will still be there when you return.

Who you gonna call?

Ghostbusters LOL. When faced with an emergency, call (or text) 911 for an immediate response. For non-emergencies that require a police response, call the non-emergency number at 361-573-3221.

Avoid using the Victoria TX 311 app to report any crimes. The app is made for residents to report issues that do not require an immediate response, such as weedy lawns, potholes, and faulty traffic lights.
