Victoria Police Officers were led to Poplar Street Wednesday, March 2nd after receiving a call in regards to a shooting. Upon arrival, the police officers discovered 41-year-old Destinee Verno had been shot and killed.

Upon investigation a crucial element was discovered; a suspect inside a white Toyota 4-Runner had been spotted fleeing the scene. Victoria PD dispatched the description of the suspected vehicle to the surrounding area law enforcement agencies in an attempt to locate the suspect driving it.

While on Hwy 77 North, a Victoria Detective discovered the white 4-Runner and followed it all the way to Lavaca County tracking it until backup arrived.

Finally, hours after the shooting the vehicle came to a stop at 5:22 am. The suspect inside the white 4-Runner pulled into the Shiloh Community Center and that's when law enforcement began to approach the 4-Runner.

Inside the vehicle was 39-year-old John Seals. Seals was the husband of Destinee Verno, police discovered Seals had shot and killed himself inside his car.

Victoria Police Department released a statement declaring John Seals had shot and killed his wife Destinee Verno and ultimately killed himself.

The Victoria Police Department thanks the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force, Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety Rangers who are assisting in this investigation.
