Victoria Mayor Rawley McCoy asks pointedly, " What are YOU doing to help me fight this disease?"

Now with over eighty confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Victoria County and health officials predicting our state's peak just weeks away, Mayor Rawley McCoy delivers a strong message to Victorians before the Easter weekend reminding everyone to Stay Home and Stay Safe.

His message is clear and strong. City officials warn now is not the time to become lackadaisical in our civic duty to follow the guidelines and mandates set forth by city, state and national authorities. Staying home and staying safe is one of the biggest ways we can stop the spread of COVID-19. In fact, it's been proven to be one of the only ways.

Mayor McCoy, alongside additional city officials and special guests, deliver public addresses to the Victoria community daily during the Operations of Emergency Management meetings streamed live weekdays on our Townsquare Media sites, along with other local media outlets, seven days a week at 3pm.

Mayor McCoy offers to our community that city officials "Don't make decisions in a vacuum. We rely heavily on experts in their fields." Yet, he continues to receive notices that indicates community members are " behaving like they don't think this is serious."  Mayor McCoy asks, " Are you staying home? Are you only out seeking essential services? Are you practicing social distancing? Social distancing is our best tool. I've said it over and over again. Don't be part of the problem. Help me fight this disease." Mayor McCoy even advises those that call him to indicate sightings of citizens out in town to stay diligent with their own Stay Home- Stay Safe Order as well. " Now I'm having to ask them, what are you doing out yourself?"

He offers to the community at large, "Don't be part of the problem, be part of the solution."

Mayor McCoy along with County Judge Ben Zeller express that they understand and sympathize with both sides of the coin especially when it comes to balancing economics and safety. Tasked with taking every consideration from constituents and weighting them with keeping the community safe while adhering to national guidelines, hasn't been easy, but both Mayor McCoy and Judge Zeller believe they are doing what is best for the community as a whole, every day, as indicated by their willingness to address the community and answer questions daily during the OEM meetings.

Mayor McCoy makes a direct statement to naysayers offering, " It's easy to armchair quarterback, but you don't have to take this pen and put your name on an order that might cost someone their lives."

Mayor McCoy offers the community a final thought. " We will do everything in our power to protect our community, rest assured."
