Victoria County Sheriff's Office Issues Scam Alert

Many of us continue to receive "scam-likely" calls at an alarming rate. Not only are we dealing with calls, but now texts and emails. Scamming has gotten so bad that the Victoria County Sheriff's Department has issued an alert reminding the public to stay alert and protect themselves.

Here are a few tips from the Victoria County Sheriff's Department.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Scammers will often pose as employees of well-known organizations or as individuals. However, they speak with urgency and can be very aggressive sometimes. They are trying to access your personal or financial information.

Never provide financial information or personal information to unknown callers or messages.
Never send money or make electronic payments, and do not share gift card information.
For those suspicious texts and emails, do not click or follow instructions. If something feels off or doesn't sound right, it probably isn't.

The unpaid toll text scam continues to make the rounds.

The most notable text scam is the "unpaid toll" scam that comes in waves. In this scam, you are given a link to click so you can pay your tolls before getting your license suspended. That's where they get your personal information. Don't do it!
