The Colorado Rockies Draft UHV LHP Brady Parker
It was a day to remember for the University of Houston-Victoria's Brady Parker! He was selected by the Colorado Rockies with the 347th pick in the 12th round of the 2025 MLB Draft. The left-handed pitcher from Victoria becomes the second-ever University of Houston-Victoria player drafted to the MLB. What an incredible accomplishment for a young boy who started to play baseball when he was six years old.
The news was shared by his mom via Facebook!
Here is what University of Houston - Victoria's baseball Head Coach, Jonathan Stavinoha, had to say about Brady.
"I knew he was special the first time I saw him throw in an intersquad as a Freshman. The athleticism and arm talent were there, and he just built upon it with maturity and hard work. Once the Fall of this last season came around, there was no doubt he had a really good shot of being drafted."
"Brady handles adversity well and has the ability to bounce back. Throughout his time with us at UHV the mental aspect of his game has grown the most."
-this is my first player to get drafted under a program I was coaching in and hopefully the start of many more to come."
Here is what Brady's mom, Vanessa Parker, had to say about Brady being drafted.
We're beyond thrilled to share that our son has been drafted by the Colorado Rockies. His relentless hard work, sacrifices, and undying determination have led him to this incredible achievement. We're immensely proud and can't wait to see him shine in the big leagues. This is a testament to following your dreams. Keep working hard!
We were able to catch up with Brady after being drafted.
Q: How did you find out you were drafted, and what was your first reaction?
A: I found out I was getting drafted when I got the call from the Rockies saying they were going to pick me, and I instantly smiled and was just completely in shock, but super happy
Q: Where were you when you got the call?
A: I was in my living room with friends and family watching the names be called out.
Q: Who has been your biggest influence or mentor in your baseball journey?
A: My parents have been my biggest supporters by always taking care of me and my needs and wants, and just always making sure I'm doing the best of my ability, no matter what it was. Just having them by my side throughout everything that was going on
Q: What would you tell the youth of today who want to pursue baseball?
A: I would tell the youth not to give up. I never thought it was possible when I got to college, but I kept working to get to where I was.
Brady tells us of some of his superstitions.
"Some of my superstitions is that I always wear the same underwear every time I pitch. I always have to have a green monster for in between innings and i have to get a pregame nap in the locker room."
You can bet the whole Victoria community will be cheering Brady on—loud and proud!
