Victoria County United Way Campaign Kickoff And Day Of Caring is Thursday at the Victoria Public Library, 302 N. Main Street from 8 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will come together for a community service project focused on literacy and helping children develop the love of reading. This is otheir most ambitious project ever; their efforts will benefit over 2,500 second graders with a fun and colorful literacy kit. The literacy kits will be assembled and distributed to second graders in nineteen different school districts in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson, Lavaca and Refugio Counties. The day begins with a light breakfast and pep. Then volunteers breakout into work teams to complete the tasks at hand. Highlights include a one on one conversation with, Robert Jaklich, Superintendent of Victoria Independent School District; Stacey Milberger, Executive Director of Victoria Adult Literacy and Henry Guajardo, Executive Director of Communities In Schools of the Golden Crescent as they share how your contributions have helped prepare children for success. Dale Jones, 2015 Campaign Chair will announce our 2015 campaign goal and Pacesetter results and remarks from Greg Westbrook, Board President round out the morning festivities. At noon, volunteers will enjoy a community lunch to celebrate our work. Volunteers will receive a 'Day of Caring T-shirt that includes sponsor logos.
