UHV Former First Lady Passes Away
According to a University of Houston-Victoria new release, Mary Jane Morgan ended her hard-fought battle with cancer Friday night. Mary was the former first lady of UHV and was regarded as a treasured member of UHV and the community.
Mary was an extraordinary woman who was heavily involved in the communities she landed in. Before being involved at UHV, she was heavily involved in Alpine, where Vic served as President of Sul Ross University for 19 years, and she served as the first lady. While in Alpine, Mary attended to numerous other duties, including serving as a trustee on the Alpine Independent School District Board of Education, full-time booster for Sul Ross, and even delivering for Meals on Wheels. Mary's dedicated service to her community and higher educated lander her the honor of being named Alpine’s Citizen of the Year in 2004.
“Mary Jane and Vic are beloved members of the UHV family, and our university community holds them both in high esteem,” UHV President Bob Glenn said. To honor Mary and Vic's dedicated service to UHV and the Victoria community, the university named Dr. Vic and Mary Jane Morgan Counseling Center inside UHV University Commons.
President Bob Glenn stated his condolences, saying, “We are heartbroken to hear of Mary Jane’s passing. She was an extraordinary, loving woman. Our thoughts and prayers are with Vic and the family as they navigate this difficult and painful loss.” Mary has made such an impact everywhere she went and will be missed dearly. She was an incredible woman, and her commitment to the community and higher education will forever be remembered.
