Truck Flies Off Houston Freeway Crashes Into Apartment Complex
A horrific accident ended up with a car flying off a Houston freeway early Monday morning.
FIGHTFIGHTERS STOP IN THEIR TRACKS
Firefighters responded to a car accident in Southeast Houston near the Gulf freeway. When firefighters arrived they were quickly faced with a serious issue.
A truck traveling on the nearby freeway somehow landed inside an apartment complex. The crash was so severe fight fighters were worried the complex was not stable enough to enter and quickly called for backup.
RESIDENTS HEAR THE CRASH
"I heard a boom and I jumped up and ran out of the apartment," a witness said. "I didn’t know if it (the building) was going to come down, but I ran out of the apartment to get out of harm's way."
At least three apartment units were reported as damaged. Lawayne Miles, a resident whose apartment was struck said he was not surprised. "You can hear the cars at night passing here. It's ridiculous it was only a matter of time," Miles said.
APARTMENTS SEVERELY DAMAGED
Firefighters had to wait to enter the building before they attempted to get the driver out. Because of the damage done, temporary structures had to be placed to hold up the building.
"I’ve been in this district a long time. Personally, this is the first extrication of a building this severe," Houston Fire Department Chief David Elias said.
The driver was eventually extracted from his truck and taken to a local hospital. Officials are currently investigating the cause of the wreck.
