The Shiner Comanches Capture Their Fourth State Title
BACK-TO-BACK:
The Shiner Comanches found themselves back on the star for the 2A Division 1 State Title Game. The Comanches took care of business behind another massive effort of the Brooks Brothers. After the first quarter, it looked like it was going to be a tight game as Shiner closed out the 1st quarter with a 7-6 lead over Hawley, but the Shiner offense was just too much. It was all Shiner in the second half. The final score was 47-12!
PLAYERS OF THE GAME:
The Bally's Jack in the Box players of the game were the Brooks Brothers and rightfully so. Dalton Brooks had 31 carries for 194 yards and 3 touchdowns. Doug Brooks had 16 rushes for 210 yards and 2 touchdowns. They combined for 90% of Shiner's total offense. The offensive player of the game was Doug Brooks. The defensive player of the game Eli Fric. Congratulations to the Shiner Comanches.
VICTORIA MEMORIAL STADIUM WAS ELECTRIC:
This is Shiner's fourth state title in 6 tries. Shiner has brought home the Hardware in 1987, 2004,2020, and now 2021! At one point during the broadcast, the commentators referred to the Shiner/Refugio game and mentioned Victoria Memorial Stadium by name. They described the energy on that night in Victoria as what small-town High School football is all about. They also mentioned that over 11,000 fans squeezed into a stadium that only sat 10,000. Will Victoria become a High School playoff destination in the future?
TWO UNDEFEATED SEASONS:
Shiner has now gone undefeated for two consecutive seasons during this back-to-back State-run. They opened the season with an exclamation point with a win over state-ranked Halletsville 21-6 and they never looked back.
