The First Ever State-Bound Lady Gobbler Pole-Vaulter
I love when I get the opportunity to showcase our local talented youth. Lady Gobbler Senior, Mackenzie Blain is heading to state for pole-vaulting. She will be the first-ever pole-vaulter to represent the Lady Gobblers at state. The state championship will take place at the University of Texas from May 6th-May 8th.
Mackenzie Blain placed second in pole-vaulting at regionals for track and field at Texas A&M Kingsville. She vaulted to a height of 10 feet and 3 inches, which is a personal best. This earned her a Silver medal and earn a trip to state. She will also be representing the Lady Gobblers in the 800-meter relay. She is also the only Gobbler to qualify for more than one event at State this year.
Making the trip to state alongside Mackenzie for the 800-meter relay as pictured below, are(L-R) Ricquel Joubert, Ibree Coe, Mackenzie Blain, and Loren Washington. It looks like girl power is powering Cuero athletics right now! The guys will also have representation as well, Dayvon Williams will also be heading to state with a jump of 6 feet 8 inches.
Mackenzie is already looking forward to her future. While she has not selected a college just yet, she hopes to go into nursing. She is actually touring Lousiana State University(LSU) today.
Good luck to Cuero High School Lady Gobblers and Gobblers at the State Track Meet on May 5th and 6th at the University of Texas.
