The outbreak as reported by the Houston Health Department offers that with its phenomenal increase, the increase was 57% from 2019 to 2022, with 2,905 new infections in 2022, compared to 1,845 new infections in 2019.

There is a cure for Syphilis

Thankfully there is a cure for Syphilis, but that doesn't mean the STI won't leave permanent damage in some cases.

Syphilis has multiple stages of infection.

The CDC offers, "Infection develops in stages (primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary). Each stage can have different signs and symptoms."

We've included the stages of Syphilis here. In the tertiary and final stage of the infection, internal organs can be permanently damaged.

What are the signs of Syphilis?

During the first signs of syphilis, you may notice a single sore or multiple sores. The sore is the location where syphilis entered your body.

We've included a Youtube video from the Cleveland Clinic to help our readers better understand the stages of this potentially deadly infection.

Early detection and treatment make a huge difference when it comes to sexually transmitted infections like syphilis.
