Considering the way things have been going, it's probably a good idea to prepare for Hurricane Season. Families are urged to have a disaster preparedness kit before the hurricane season starts on June 1st  The State of Texas is giving you a chance to stock up and save money.

 The 2021 Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday begins on Saturday, April 24, at 12:01 a.m to Monday, April 26, at midnight.  Items that will be included in this tax-free weekend will be items that can be used in a hurricane preparedness kit.  Tax-free items that will be included are portable generators, hurricane shutters, coolers, fuel containers, tarps, flashlights, batteries, and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

To encourage social distancing, the sale of emergency preparation supplies purchased online or by telephone, mail, custom order, or any other means other than in-person.  Here are a few of the items that do not qualify for tax exemptions: medical masks and face masks, cleaning supplies, disinfectants, gloves, toilet paper.  Early reports are showing that this will be a very active Hurricane season that could start early.  The change would reflect an increasing tendency for early-season storms to form ahead of the internationally agreed-upon June 1 conventional start date in an effort to respond to observed trends. The National Hurricane Center has announced plans to begin issuing routine tropical weather outlooks starting on May 15.  Read more about Hurricane season by clicking here.
