The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60 was a big show. Idina Menzel sang “Let It Go.” Elton John sang a hit or two from The Lion King in the shadow of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. But for a particular kind of movie fan, the highlight of the night was an appearance by Harrison Ford (who, mercifully, did not sing) introducing what he called “The Star Wars Experience.” Those are the massive Star Wars worlds coming soon to Disneyland and Walt Disney World, and the show featured some of the first looks at concept art and animation from the upcoming attractions.
In a new Reuters/Ipsos survey, octogenarian and veteran ‘Golden Girls’ star Betty White was voted the most popular and trusted celebrity, with 86 percent of the 2,200 US adults polled giving her a favorable rating. Denzel Washington and Sandra Bullock were not far behind, coming in second and third with 85 percent and 84 percent, respectively.
Huge news for science fiction fans: ‘Blade Runner’ director Ridley Scott will be returning to direct and produce a planned sequel to the 1982 cult favorite.
Three new movies will be added to theaters this Friday, offering everything from cowboys and aliens to the Smurfs in 3-D.
The first is the Jon Favreau-directed ‘Cowboys & Aliens,’ in which Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford team to fight off – you guessed it – an alien-invasion in 1873 Arizona.
