The Come and Take It Square Dance Club of Gonzales is offering lessons from 7 to 8 p.m. beginning March 4 at the First Presbyterian Church, 414 St. Louis St., Gonzales.

Oct. 2, 1835, marked the beginning of the Texas Revolution with the firing of the first shot near Gonzales, in modern-day Cost. The shot was fired by a cannon given to Gonzales by the Mexican government as protection from the Indians.

Fire up your cameras and try to focus! The Gonzales County Camera Club will have its annual photography contest during this year's Come and Take It celebration Oct. 5-7 in downtown Gonzales.
