Talk about a Throwback Thursday topic for us in Victoria. I mean, it was all about that intense rivalry between the Victoria Stingarees and Stroman Raiders. Those football games were insane, and the energy was unreal. However, the 1985 Stroman Raider baseball team brought a state title to Victoria, and it's time to celebrate. Relive the Stroman Raider Championship game below.

When is the celebration?

  • The 40th anniversary celebration will take place on Saturday, September 20, at Riverside Stadium. Admission is free open to all ages, and the first 50 in the gate will receive a free hot dog, chips, and soda. The event will be hosted by Victoria icon and former teacher, Gary Moses! Check out the full itinerary below.
  • 9:30 a.m. – Gates Open
  • 10 a.m. – Meet & Greet with the 1985 Champions
  • 10:30 a.m. – Ceremony Honoring the Team
  • 11 a.m. – Showcase Game

Once a Raider, always a Raider! Come and support our 1985 State Champion, Stroman Raiders!

Memorial Stadium was lit on Friday Night.

On the football field is where things got heated between the Stingarees and Raiders. The Crosstown rivalry lasted 31 years, with the final game being played in 1999. The overall record for Victoria's original rivalry was 24-8 in favor of the Victoria Stingarees; however, the Stroman Raiders band brought the energy in the stands. Of course, we can't forget about the Victoriadores and Raider Belles.
