Steven Tyler’s move to country music hasn’t been welcomed by everyone, including Aerosmith's Joe Perry, who has publicly expressed his distaste for the shift. Tyler feels that his bandmates are jealous.

When TMZ asked the country-rocker about the comments Perry made, Tyler gave a bit of a tongue-in-cheek answer, saying that attitude is why he needed to try a solo career.

“That's how they are,” Tyler said with a smile. “That’s why I’m doing a country record."

Ultimately, Tyler gave a shrug and a simple conclusion, saying: “It’s alright, you know what? Jealousy runs deep in this family."

The Aerosmith frontman insists the guys have no bad blood, despite their clashing opinions. “He’s doing what he’s doing, and I do what I do,” Tyler said pleasantly.

Perry has been on record saying he’s not interested in Tyler’s new venture into country music, characterizing the singer's new tune “Red, White and You” as pretty forgettable.

“Hey, if I didn’t know him when I heard the song I’d go, ‘It’s okay, next,'” Perry told USA Today. “I’m not going to say anything else about that. Steven is in Nashville doing whatever he’s doing. He’s got a (bleeping) rhinestone cowboy hat going, ‘Yippee ki yay.’ I don’t know what else to say about that.”

Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford also previously spoke out about his disappointment in a lack of upcoming Aerosmith tour due to Tyler’s solo venture, saying the band feels "abandoned."

“It’s unfortunate. We kind of feel a little bit abandoned by him. I guess he seems to think his solo career is going to go great guns, and he doesn’t seem to realize that — in my opinion — his fans around the globe want to see him in the context of Aerosmith and don’t really care for whatever he thinks he’s gonna do," Whitford said.

Tyler takes it all in stride, saying he’s simply taking his turn exploring this new world as a solo artist. “This is a side project, which has now turned into a love of life,” the rock legend said.

He is slated to headline August’s WE Fest 2016 in Minnesota as a country artist, performing alongside a slew of artists with his band Loving Mary.
