Every time I drive by the Skating Rink in Victoria, Skate World, I always think of a simpler time! Friday and Saturday nights were epic in the late eighties and nineties. Your parents would drop you off with like $5 with no phone, and it was the best time ever! A big thanks to the Garza family for keeping the skating tradition alive in Victoria to this day. Side note, skate world in Victoria has one of the largest skating floors in Texas.

Those iconic brown skates with orange wheels.

You would walk in, and the smell of feet greeted you while you put on those iconic brown skates with those orange wheels. You would enjoy a night of skating, and if you dared, you would join in the couple skate, holding hands with your crush. In fact, the lighting over the rink is still the same. Which really keeps the vibe authentic.

It's time for the crazy skates.

Things got crazy then! They would put the cones. The hokey pokey, the limbo, the foot race, followed by the speed races and we can't forget about the backwards skate. However, if you were like me, you went straight to the video games and played Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat all night long while skating  a few songs in between.

It was all about the music.

The one thing that really brings all of this together was the music! Certain songs just make you think of the skating rink. A couple of personal favorites, "End of the Road" by Boyz II Men, "Informer" by Snow, and House of Pain's "Jump." I think it is time for the Skating Rink in Victoria to host a throwback '90s night for us old folks. Do you agree? Let us know by sending us a message.
