Texas country band Shane Smith & the Saints are reeling after a devastating bus fire reduced their tour bus and trailer to a burnt-out shell and destroyed all of their gear and other on-tour possessions. Fortunately, the group and their crew are all safe.

Shane Smith & the Saints' booking agent, Jeb Hurt, tells Saving Country Music that the band was traveling through Coleman, Texas, to a scheduled show in Lubbock when passers-by alerted the band to flames coming from underneath the bus. "Within a matter of minutes, the bus was engulfed," Hurt says. The flames spread to the trailer and its contents, and additional damage came when the fire department arrived to douse the fire.

“Everyone’s safe, and nobody was injured ... But I don’t even know if we got everyone’s cell phones out. It looks like so far it’s a total loss,” Hurt adds. “They did have insurance, but who knows what’s covered here and there. You can’t insure emotions and attachments, but the good news was everything was taken care of in advance of something like this happening, financially at least.”

Smith and his band sprung into action, tracking down gear for and transportation to their scheduled show at Cook's Garage in Lubbock. A Facebook post from the venue shows more of the damaged bus, and encouraged fans to come to the concert to help the band out; a press release reports that Cook's donated proceeds from the show to the band.

Smith and the band intend to play their scheduled weekend concerts, in Oklahoma City, Okla., on Friday (Nov. 22) and Wichita, Kan., on Saturday (Nov. 23), the release reports, with borrowed gear. “We’re so grateful for the outpouring of support from fans and fellow musicians," says Smith.

Shane Smith & the Saints released a new album, Hail Mary, earlier this year. The band slowly dropped the project in four "chapters," leading up to the record's official June 28 release date.

"If you dig deep behind the record, there's a lot of intentional reasoning for the order of the songs, the way that they're listed and the chapters they fall into," Smith tells The Boot. "Honestly, our fans have waited such a long time [since Geronimo came out in 2015]. I didn't wanna not have any music out until June 28. I wanted to start rolling it out so that people could enjoy it."
