Plan Now for Beryl as a Category One or Two Hurricane
Beryl has left the Yucatan Peninsula as a Tropical Storm. Still, after a few days in the Bay of Campeche and the Gulf of Mexico, it is expected to strengthen to a Category One or Two hurricane.
While Beryl's exact trajectory and intensity remain uncertain, it is currently projected to land between Corpus Christi and Houston. This will place the Crossroads and Victoria directly in its potential path of the most intense side of the storm, with storm effects starting the afternoon of Sunday, July 7th.
All of the Crossroads should be preparing for a hurricane. Beryl is expected to make landfall Monday morning somewhere near or along the Coastal Bend as a Category 1 Hurricane, though plan for a Category 2 Hurricane.
Hurricane and Storm Surge Watch is now in effect for most of the Texas Coast 3. To 5 Foot Storm Surge of Possible 5-10 inches of rain, isolated amounts to 15 inches. The earliest time for the arrival of TS-force winds is late Sunday evening. The most likely time is late Sunday night.
Now is the time to prepare for a significant storm. If you plan on evacuating, make your plans now. Be sure to fill up your vehicles and store items that can be lifted and tossed in high winds, and if you board up your home, now would be the time to prepare for the storm.
Be sure to stock up on water, non-perishable food items, and batteries. Due to the nature of this storm, the area will occasionally experience outages.
The City of Victoria Emergency Management and the National Weather Service-Corpus Christi will update the community as the storm evolves.
