Spring and summer are by far the busiest times of the year for the Victoria Parks and Recreation Department. Schools and colleges are letting out for the spring and summer breaks.

The parks and recreation staff is hard at work planning recreational, sports and leisure activities, not to mention an array of special events for the community and visitors to our wonderful city. It takes more than great facilities to make great recreational activities. It takes great people, too. According to the Victoria Advovate, the parks and recreation department is currently hiring.

Additional assistance is needed to ensure our recreational programs and special events are delivered successfully to the community. If you are a "people person" and like to be a part of fun activities, you may enjoy working for parks and recreation.

Recreation workers are being hired to work at the Lone Tree Creek splash pad opening Tuesday, April 2. This facility will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, weather permitting. Recreation workers are needed to ensure our guests have a safe and enjoyable visit.

The Gary T. Moses Municipal pool will open in June for the summer. We will be hiring lifeguards, a head lifeguard and cashiers to ensure our pool visitors also have safe and enjoyable visits.

Recreation workers also assist in making our great events happen. There are many fun events and activities planned for the summer months, including downtown street dances, Market Days, evenings at the Ethel Lee Tracy Park amphitheater, the annual Fourth of July fireworks show, a kayak clinic, summer sports leagues and much more.

In addition to part-time positions, the city does offer a summer youth work program for ages 16 and older. Interested applicants can view job postings and apply online at victoriatx.org.
