How about starting off the week with a laugh? Well, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos may not be laughing but there are many Texans who are.

So far, an online petition at Change.org has gathered over 40,000 signatures in support of the idea that Bezos not be allowed to return from space when he takes part in the Blue Origin launch scheduled for July.

Petition to Prevent Jeff Bezos from Returning to Earth

Not only was I surprised that this was actually a thing, but I had to laugh because the logic behind this gag seems pretty sound. The petition states: "Billionaires should not exist...on earth, or in space, but should they decide the latter, they should stay there." Should the petition reach 50,000 signatures it will be one of the most signed items on the Change.org platform. I'm not sure if I'm laughing more at the concept or at some of the comments coming in under this petition which has been online now for more than a couple of weeks. User Lynda Dods said, "If they can send a billionaire to Mars why can't they send them all there?" User Mollie Dyer said, "Just send him into the sun."

The petition indicates it was started in Houston by user Ric G.

Bezos Plans to be On Board Blue Origin's First Passenger Flight

KXAN.com reports that Bezos made the big announcement earlier in the summer that he planned to step down as the CEO of Amazon prior to the adventure in space which is scheduled for next month. The Amazon founder took to Instagram to share a video about making the historic journey alongside his brother Mark. The two have dreamed of such an endeavor since childhood.

The Blue Origin Mission is Less than One Month Away

Does the petition carry any weight at the end of the day? No, it does not. Even if there are a million signatures, Bezos and his brother will surely be landing upon completion of the mission. July 20th is a special day in the history of manned space flight. Bezos will lift off with his crew on what will be the 52 anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

Keep reading to see if your favorite beach town made the cut.
