Old Dominion Win Vocal Group of the Year at 2018 ACM Awards
Old Dominion reigned over some of country music's best vocal groups at the 2018 ACM Awards in Las Vegas on Sunday night (April 15). The five-man band won the ACM Vocal Group of the Year Award, edging out star artists including Lady Antebellum and Little Big Town, as well as newbies Midland and Lanco.
Old Dominion lead singer Matthew Ramsey spoke on his band's behalf in acceptance of the award.
"Wow, this is heavy in a lot of ways," Ramsey said from the stage. "There's a lot of people who've made a lot of sacrifices in order for us to be where we are right now. Our families, our management team, our label; we're so lucky. Look at us. Look at us! ... We feel good, we're friends and we're having a ball, man. Thank you for letting us make music. Thank you for that."
Ramsey appeared surprised his group won the award as he happily fumbled through what appeared to be an unprepared acceptance speech. However, it's not such a surprise that Old Dominion won such a prestigious award after their strong showing in 2017.
Their 2017 album Happy Endings, which was also nominated for ACM Album of the Year, yielded two No. 1 singles with "No Such Thing as a Broken Heart" and "Written in the Sand." Their fresh single, "Hotel Key," currently sits at No. 45 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.
