North Texas Church Burns to the Ground, Cross Remains
A fire broke out in North Texas on Friday afternoon! The Balsora Baptist Church in Bridgeport caught on fire and the structure was basically a total loss. However, one structure emerged from the damage. A structure that resembled a cross was left standing among the smoldering remnants of the church building. Check out the awesome photo that was posted by the Wise County ESD No. 2 / Boonsville-Balsora Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page. This photo definitely gave me the chills.

A devastating loss to our community, but a sight to behold. The fire took the structure, but not the cross. A symbol that the building was just that, a building. The Church is the congregation, and where 2 or more gather, there he shall be also.
A huge thank you to mutual aid, once again. Extreme temperatures are beyond taxing to resources and manpower in events like these. Churches also pose an inherent danger related to the great span of the sanctuaries and great halls, which makes them very prone to collapse. The sanctuary roof did begin to collapse while FFs were in the building, several FFs were seen/treated by Wise County EMS on scene.

According to a news report by nbcdfw, three people were hurt. Those hurt had injuries that were not considered life-threatening, the spokesman said. Two had minor heat-related injuries and one person had a minor injury from falling debris. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
According to the article, Church pastor Sonny Smith said work was being done Friday on the roof and the fellowship hall. The workers left to go to lunch and came back to find the church on fire, Smith said.
