A change is coming to Texans who use SNAP benefits or the Lone Star Card. Starting on April 1, Lone Star Card or SNAP benefits can't be used to purchase soda, candy, energy drinks, and other sugary snacks, as reported by news4sanantonio.com.

Supporters believe the change will result in a healthier society.

Those who oppose the new law believe that it limits the freedom of choice, and ultimately will not lead to healthier options, citing that healthier foods are more expensive.
