New Year’s Eve Blastoff Music Lineup and Viewing Areas

The City of Victoria Parks & Recreation is inviting residents to end the City’s bicentennial year with a bang.

Parks & Recreation will host the New Year’s Eve Blastoff Dec. 31 at the Riverside Park Special Events Area (near Riverside Stadium).

Residents can enjoy the following pre-show activities starting at 6 p.m.:

• Kids’ inflatables
• Food trucks (Trevino’s Concessions, Ganga’s Eats & Events, Dive On In and Sweeter Than Life)
• Light-up toys for sale

The pre-show will also include live music performances:

• 6-7:15 p.m.: Adriana Live
• 7:30-9 p.m.: Dawson DeBord and Southpaw

The fireworks show will begin at 9 p.m. Parks & Recreation is coordinating with the vendor to ensure that the display will be visible throughout the park.

Residents are welcome to park at Riverside Stadium, the Riverside Soccer Complex, Riverside Golf Course or the Children’s Park to view the show. Residents may not park on the grass, except in overflow parking areas designated by Victoria Parks & Recreation.

Civilian Police Academy offers hands-on experience of police work

The Civilian Police Academy is a 10-week program designed to give participants a behind-the-scenes look at the Victoria Police Department and experience police training firsthand. Sessions are held 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 25-April 29, with one Saturday morning session tentatively scheduled for April 12.

How much does it cost?

The program is free thanks to the financial support of local businesses.

How to apply

Each class is limited to 20 students and is filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants must be 18 years of age and must pass a background check.

Applications can be picked up at the Community Engagement Office located in the Victoria Mall between Chick-Fil-A and Murdoch’s, or downloaded at www.victoriatx.gov/police.

The deadline to apply is Jan. 31.
