More Texas School Districts Have Moved to a Four-Day Week

Four-day school weeks are a topic that is gaining traction. In fact, over 60 school districts have made or are in the process of making the change. Most of these school districts are located in North Texas. According to KXAN, Rockdale ISD made the change this past Spring, in an effort to retain teachers and improve student learning.

Rockdale ISD starts the new four-day schedule for the 2023-24 year. The week will be Monday through Thursday, while Fridays will be a time for teachers to plan future lessons and work on professional development. While this is a great idea, however, this will pose a problem for parents who work on Friday. This year’s sale tax holiday begins Friday, Aug. 11, and goes through midnight Sunday, Aug. 13.  Save the sales tax on school supplies, clothes, and more. During the sales tax holiday, you can buy most footwear and clothing (sold for less than $100) tax-free. You do not need to give the seller an exemption certificate.

The exemption applies to each eligible item sold for less than $100, and there is no limit to the number of qualifying items you can buy.

 BACKPACKS:

During the sales tax holiday, student backpacks sold for less than $100 are exempt from tax.

The exemption includes backpacks with wheels and messenger bags. You can buy up to 10 backpacks tax-free at one time without giving an exemption certificate to the seller.
