KIXS 108 and RCR Homes, “Your Crossroads Builder”, would like to take a moment to say Thank You to all the Heroes Behind the Badge.  We want to say Thank You to all the police officers, sheriff’s deputies, corrections officers, detectives, parole officers, probation officers, SWAT team members, traffic cops, police supervisors, law enforcement managers, fire fighters, EMS personnel and police chiefs.

This week we would like to honor Officer Ricardo Soto with the Victoria Police Department.  He has been in law enforcement for almost six years. Before law enforcement he was an Air Force military police for four years active duty and three years reserves. We asked Rick a few questions so we can get to know him better. His best childhood memory was his father always being there for him, even through this career was demanding (retired Bexar Country Sheriffs Deputy), he never missed any of his birthdays, holidays or school events. Rick has lots of favorite artists like Wade Bowen, Pat Green, and Chris Tomlin. His favorite concert he attended was the Bart Crow Band. He enjoys eating at home more than going out to eat. He has one dog named Zuma, who is a German Shepherd. Rick brought this dog home from Germany with him. Rick wants the public to know law enforcment is human. Every pencil comes with an eraser, because everyone makes mistakes, its learning and admitting to your fault that determines what path you'll walk down. We all have someone at home who loves us and wants us to be safe, but the reality of our chosen calling and profession is that it is not always the safest job in the world. We want to help our communities live in a community which they feel safe. Also, please, from the bottom of our hearts, when you see an officer, do not tell your children to behave or we will take them to jail. The last thing we want is for your future generations to grow up in fear of the police. We are here for the public and appreciate all the support they have shown us. Thank you to everyone and God Bless.

Linda Soto nominated Ricardo, who goes by the nickname Rick. Here is what she told us: My husband, Rick, is a selfless man. He started his law enforcement career while serving as a Security Forces officer in the United States Air Force. Serving his nation was a dream he had since he was a child but he wanted to do more. Before separating from Active Duty, Rick searched for ways to get involved in law enforcement. He joined the police academy in 2010 and was blessed to answer his calling in Victoria. For almost 6 years Rick has always tried to do more. More to serve the community, more to be a positive impact on children who have only seen police officers in a negative light. Today he serves Victoria PD as the Warrant Officer and Bailiff because he wants to aide people in turning their life around. Whether it be a brother or sister in blue, a fellow Veteran or the community that he protects and serves, he's always going the extra mile to serve someone in need

We would like to thank Rick for serving our community.

If you know of someone who deserves to be honored please fill out the brief questionnaire below. Each week our station will be honoring a law enforcement person on air.  Heroes Behind the badge is brought to you by KIXS 108 and RCR Homes Your crossroads builder.
