Luke Combs Storms Onto ‘Today’ Show With ‘Hurricane’ and New Single [Watch]
Luke Combs made his national television debut this week, performing his No. 1 hit single "Hurricane" on Today. The newcomer also sang his new single, "When It Rains It Pours."
While Combs is seeing rapid success, it didn't happen overnight. "A lot of hard work over the last five or six years and here we are, writing songs and playing music," the 27-year-old explains.
After he mastered his debut single, "Hurricane," he knew he had a hit on his hands, so he decided to upload it to iTunes in hopes that people would buy it. It worked. The sale of the song brought him enough money to fund the rest of his EP, which led to a record deal.
"It's kind of backwards, but it worked out," Combs admits.
In an interview with Taste of Country last year, the singer said when he sat down to write "Hurricane" with Thomas Archer and Taylor Phillips, one of his co-writers told the story of a friend who recently went through a breakup and saw his ex everywhere.
“It was that small town Nashville thing where he was like, ‘Every time I go out, she’s out. I can’t say no when she’s out.’ I was like, ‘Well, let’s try to meet this title, ‘Hurricane,’ somewhere with that idea of that.’ That’s really how it came to be,” he recalled.
Combs also performed his new single "When It Rains It Pours" on the morning show.
