Josh Turner Is Teaching His Kids Country Music History
Josh Turner is an encyclopedia when it comes to traditional country music, and the singer is working to bestow his knowledge on his children. The father of four boys, Turner shared that he is slowly teaching his sons the history of the genre during a recent chat with Taste of Country Nights.
"They like mostly country music," he says. "I'm trying to raise them right. I want them to know what the real stuff is first and then go beyond that. I want them to be pretty well rounded. I want them to know the history of country music and why I'm doing what I do, and I also want to expose them to all different kinds of music, too."
Turner says that while they're getting exposure to other genres of music from church, friends, television and radio, it's not as easy to go back and listen to archival country music.
The singer's sons are now ages 10, 7, 6 and 2, and he admits his favorite age range is between 2 and 4 when kids still have an innocence about them, but they love to play and wrestle. Wrestling is allowed in the Turner household.
"I only have three main rules in the house: no lying, no throwing and no jumping on furniture," he says.
Turner recently released his new album Deep South, and says his sons' favorite songs include the title track and "All About You."
"There's quite a few on there they like," he shares. "I'm very pumped. It's been a long time coming. I started working on this record years ago, and for it to finally be here and the single in the Top 15 . . . everything's happening the way you would want it to happen, so I can't complain."
