Out of all 50 states, Texas is the leader when it comes to owning guns & firearms. There are over 1 million guns in our state alone. However, you're not allowed to own just ANY weapon you want; there are several prohibited weapons that you're not supposed to have on your property or in your household.

What kind of weapons are you prohibited from owning in Texas?

The Texas Penal Code §46.05 explicitly states all the legal text when it comes to weapons; everything from classifications to what you can and can NOT own in Texas. According to Texas law, the following items are ones you are NOT allowed to own or carry:

"A Chemical dispensing device": which is classified by any device that is designed, made, or adapted for the purpose of dispensing a substance capable of causing an adverse psychological or physiological effect on a human being. You can own tear gas or mace as long as its available for purchase. Otherwise, that's a huge NO.

"A Zip gun": If you're unfamiliar with what a "zip gun" is, the Texas Penal Code states that they are "a device or combination of devices that was not originally a firearm and is adapted to expel a projectile through a smooth-bore or rifled-bore barrel by using the energy generated by an explosion or burning substance".

In other words, if you make a modification of an existing gun at home (or...wherever really), these are illegal and you can not have these guns in Texas.

"A Tire deflation device": If you've seen a police pursuit before & you see the cops place that giant metal belt with spikes on it, the spike strip or a caltrop,... that's considered a tire deflation device. The police are allowed to have them to stop police pursuits. Us civilians, however, can not own them. So don't even try getting one. Leave them to the professionals.

"Armor-piercing ammunition": If your handgun (mainly pistols or revolvers) contains ammo rounds that was designed for the sole purpose of piercing body armor, that is not allowed in Texas. Your gun must have ammunition that body armor can withstand and protect the wearer.

"An improvised explosive device":...a bomb. I don't think we need to explain WHY you can't own any of these... ok fine. Here's a short explanation: they're crudely designed & can cause extreme amounts of damage when they go off. If there's one thing you CAN learn from cartoons is that explosives or bombs are nothing to mess with.

So remember, yes... you CAN own guns in Texas. You're absolutely to protect yourself & your family. But just remember to stay within the legal boundaries & be smart with your firearms.
