
Boerne Is Texas’ Only Finalist In Hallmark’s Merriest Christmas Town Contest
The only thing Texas August has in common with Texas December is dead grass, but it isn't too early to start thinking about Christmas holidays, especially if you are in Boerne, Texas.
Texas Has a Hill Country Contender for National Holiday Honors
The City of Boerne has earned nationwide recognition after being selected as a top 25 finalist in the "Hallmark Channel’s 2026 search for the "Merriest Christmas Town". This is a huge deal, especially since Boerne is the only city in the state to be chosen.
How the Contest Works
The contest is pretty cut and dry. Texans are encouraged to vote daily through Friday, September 4 by casting one digital ballot every 24 hours. Beyond claiming bragging rights as the premier holiday destination in the country, the winning city will earn the chance to serve as the setting for a future original Hallmark holiday film production. Final selections will ultimately be evaluated by a panel of judges scoring each location across four primary benchmarks:
Overall community spirit
Longstanding holiday traditions
Distinctive neighborhood charm
Expressed goodwill and hospitality

Boerne's Celebrations and Local Traditions
It really isn't a surprise that Boerne has been singled due to it's annual Christmas activities. The Christmas season is kicked off in grand fashion by Dickens on Main, a Thanksgiving weekend celebration that converts the downtown district using period-accurate Victorian decorations, costumed performers, and live street entertainment. The evening Weihnachts Parade, is known to draw huge crowds as well.
