On Monday (7/1/24) Hurricane Beryl made its violent landfall through the island of Carriacou as it continued to travel westward into the Caribbean Sea.

Hitting land as a Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds around 150 mph, Hurricane Beryl ripped "off roofs, knocked down trees, filled air with debris" and that's putting it lightly.

WXChasing caught some terrifying video of the storm and shared it to Youtube, and it's the stuff nightmares are made of.

Hurricane Beryl Makes Landfall

As of 10 am this morning (7/2/24) Hurricane Beryl has strengthened to a monstrous Category 5 storm on its way toward Jamaica "after earlier making landfall in the southeast Caribbean, killing at least four people" according to apnews.com.

A Category 5 hurricane is the most severe classification on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, signifying a storm with catastrophic potential.

A Cat 5 storm has sustained winds exceed 157. These intense winds can cause complete and devastating widespread destruction.

A system this severe can cause catastrophic damage to buildings, trees and power lines, infrastructure, and most significant of all, the threat to humans and wildlife.

From CNN.com -

"Beryl made landfall shortly after 11:00 a.m. EDT on Grenada’s Carriacou Island in the Caribbean Sea with max winds of 150 mph.

It is the strongest known hurricane to pass through the Grenadines, according to data from NOAA that goes back to 1851."

As we spoke about previously, forecasters believe Hurricane Beryl will impact the Yucatan Peninsula this Friday.

The majority of the models so far suggests that Beryl will enter into the Bay of Campeche as a Tropical Storm.
