Texas Thrift Store Accused of Spying in Fitting Rooms
A viral video has shoppers across San Antonio on edge. A local thrift store is facing backlash after a TikTok video appeared to show a camera pointing directly into its fitting rooms.
The clip shows a girl inside a dressing room recording her outfit when she begins to zoom the camera in upwards, revealing a dome camera mounted above, aimed right toward the dressing room stalls.
The short video instantly blew up online, leaving viewers furious and questioning their privacy.
THRIFT STORE DENIES WRONGDOING
The store at the center of the controversy, Thrift City, quickly fired back. Managers claim the camera does not record inside the dressing rooms but instead monitors the busy hallway outside; an area they say is prone to theft and even reports of missing children.

"They do not record in the dressing rooms. It’s unfortunate that the customer did not ask anyone in the store, but chose to go to social media without the facts," a Thrift City spokesperson said.
POLICE INVESTIGATE COMPLAINTS
Leon Valley Police confirmed they received several calls after the TikTok went viral. Officers responded and checked the location, finding no criminal activity tied to the placement of the cameras.
Investigators say Thrift City cooperated with all visits and assured authorities that dressing room areas are not under surveillance.
CAMERAS IN TEXAS STORES
Texas has been the backdrop for multiple controversies involving cameras in retail spaces. From hidden devices discovered in gyms to questionable placement in stores, these incidents have fueled debates over privacy.
Now, shoppers are left to decide whether they feel safe stepping into the fitting rooms at a store that has already been branded suspicious by the internet.
